Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you virtual only (no in-person sessions)?
After Covid-19, I made the switch to virtual only appointments. I have found that my clients appreciate the flexibility in appointments and the ability to avoid traffic. It works best for me and a lot of people. If you prefer in person sessions, I can refer you to someone who has in person capabilities.
When do you have availability for an appointment?
Availability varies, but I try to offer appointment times during the day and evening. You can book online by clicking the REQUEST AN APPOINTMENT button at the bottom of this website. Please email if you are interested in finding out more or if you would like to book an 80 minute session.
How do I make an appointment?
There are a few ways you can schedule an appointment. If you have questions or what to take advantage of the free 20 minute phone consultation, then you can contact me via email at [email protected] or call/ text me at 512-270-9683. You may also schedule an appointment online by going to the bottom of any page on this site and click REQUEST AN APPOINTMENT.
Do you offer a free phone consultation?
Yes, I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation prior to scheduling (if you would like). I think it is important for the client (or parent/guardian) and I to connect over the phone to make sure we are a good fit.
What do you mean by a good fit?
Many therapists believe that in order to have change or growth in therapy, you must have a connection with your therapist. This connection allows the therapist and client to build rapport and trust so that the client feels more comfortable with their therapist. If I am not a good fit for you, I can usually tell in the free 20 minute phone consultation. If you or I feel as though this may not be a good fit, I can provide you with referrals for other therapists.
What will our first session be like?
During your initial visit, we will take a little time to get to know each other. We will discuss the history of the issue, what you would like to achieve with counseling, and any other contributing factors that may be present. In order to make the most of your first visit, please complete all paper work prior to your appointment. When your appointment is made, I will send you an email through my practice management software (Simple Practice) where you can create a login for the client portal. Please check your spam folders. If you don't receive this email within a few hours, please contact me and I can re-send it.
How long is a session?
A session will last 45 minutes. This includes payment and scheduling for any future appointments.
How long will therapy last or how many sessions will I need?
Honestly, I don't know. Everyone is different. I usually recommend about 6-8 weekly sessions in the beginning so we have time to build rapport and focus on your presenting problems. There is not a "One Size Fits All" when it comes to therapy. Your needs are specific to you, so we will tailor your counseling process to what you need. This also depends on your presenting problems, goals, and readiness for change.
Why choose a therapist instead of a close friend or family member?
Friends and family are often great listeners and are able provide support. People usually come to therapy for insight in a non-biased and confidential environment. Therapists also offer professional knowledge and skills that can help a diverse range of issues.
Do you accept insurance?
Unfortunately, I do not accept any insurance. I can provide you with a super bill that you can submit to your insurance for possible out of network reimbursement.
